My First Post

I’ve always shied from blogs, websites, and ‘media sites’. I thought them merely for the young to play with and for the very computer savvy to work with. As I’m neither young nor computer savvy it was easy for me to stay clear of what seemed to be complicated non-necessity. But I’ve changed my mind and this is the first uttering of the new me. I’ve taken Twitter on board too (@plingaus). My wife thinks I’ve lost my way and I feel sure others, who are too polite to say so, agree with her. But I shall prevail. My main intent is to tell you what I think about matters of no great import, to share a photograph, some doggerel, and a story now and then, and, eventually my novel, Boswell’s Fairies. I invite you all to comment on anything and everything I publish here.

To start the ball rolling I give you this pantoum – a French/Vietnamese poem in which every line must be repeated. If any of you want to try writing such a piece I will send you a formula with which to work.

A Friend

(A tribute to Chas Eeles)
the man became my friend
although we never met
he eased me round a bend
he made me better yet
although we never met
I owe him such a lot
he made me better yet
by all the things he taught
I owe him such a lot
through him my writing grew
by all the things he taught
he made me think anew
through him my writing grew
his words encouraged me
he made me think anew
and thereby set me free
his words encouraged me
he eased me round a bend
and thereby set me free
the man became my friend.
